A resident of Walthamstow since 1990, Caroline started her pottery journey by attending evening classes in the borough in the mid 90s. Several years later, Purple Pots was “born” late one night, during her travels in Marrakech. Her work is greatly inspired by her years of backpacking around the globe and working for MSF in Asia.

In her ‘other’ life she has been a GP, a doctor with Médecins Sans Frontières and a Tropical/Travel Medicine doctor. In 2017 and 2019, she participated in the E17 Arts trail where she combines her expertise as a Travel/Tropical Medicine doctor and a potter in her Malaria installation. In 2019, together with her friend and fellow ceramics maker Wardi, she co-founded Clay Habitat.

Working from her studio at The Quiet Corner, Caroline loves to make small batches of functional ceramics and nothing makes her happier than knowing her work is used and loved.

"During my backpacking days (and especially much more so when I was working for Médecins Sans Frontières in Asia), I was immersed in the local culture where handmade pottery is very much an integral part of daily life. This is where the main influence for my work lies. To be surrounded by beautifully crafted ceramics that are being used daily; Nothing makes me happier than knowing that my work is being used and loved." — Caroline.
